Identify all important Stakeholders of your organization e.g. customers, suppliers and partners, employees, supervisory boards or shareholders, but also society and environment.

In excellent organizations, all stakeholders feel your organization impacts them positively. Positive impact is perceived as a Benefit. This is why you try to find out which benefit each stakeholder expects from your organization.

Only if you know all Stakeholder expectations, you continue with Step 2.

In order to create as much Benefit for your Stakeholders as possible, you define a high-level response to their expectations, this is your Strategy. A good strategy reflects all major stakeholder expectations in a balanced way, but also the capabilities of your organization.

To deliver Benefit through your Strategy, your organization needs excellent products and services, and high performing Processes behind them. So look closely at your organization’s processes and identify the most important ones that deliver the benefit you intend for your stakeholders. These key processes need to be improved to ensure they deliver more benefit.

To improve your processes in a focused way, define Performance Indicators for every key process, together with targets, and optimize their performance. This is the way to improve Operational Excellence inside your organization.

But while process performance is important for you, your Stakeholders care much more about the Benefit your processes deliver. Therefore, you also define Benefit Indicators for your processes to measure how much Benefit they generate for your Stakeholders.
